Where is the Tax and Prices Index (TPI)?

Hi,

I have had a look at statistics.gov.uk, and was after a measure of inflation that includes prices, and there is one called the TPI.

This is my "true" inflation since it should include tax rises like council tax. It is very easy to find the consumer prices index (CPI), but do I need to pay to see the TPI?

Also are indexed linked savings certificates now tied to the CPI instead of the retail prices index (RPIX)?

Dave.

AFAIK, NS&I are still using the RPI for index-linking. However, given the Govt's propensity to use CPI for inflation measure now, I'm sure it won't be long before NS&I too move over to CPI instead of RPI. There has been the odd thread on this issue in this newsgroup.

I happened to be looking for something else and noticed this: "The index-linked increase is based on a Retail Prices Index figure of

188.6...." at

dated Dec 2004.

So at least they still appear to be using the RPI (although who knows for how much longer)

For the certificates currently in issue, until they mature. They can't retroactively change the basis.
