which bank?

I'm not a rate tart, CC user or planet wide traveller. I'd just like to be able to manage my affairs online with out the hassle of parking, queueing etc. Affairs ? Very simple, a *private* individual's SOs, DDs, online transfers and pension acceptance. I would also like to be able to have one account which will not overdraft. Currently with ...one I'm beginning to regret (yes a high street bank). TIA jim

Smile works good for me - if you have a local post office you can use for money in/out. Halfway decent rate of interest for a current a/c, but it's trivially easy to move it to/from a deposit a/c (e.g. ING Direct) if you want to.

I use Lloyds TSB, Classic Plus account, which pays 4% monthly if you pay in at least £1,000 on balances up to £5,000. They also have an On-line Saver, which pays the same rate on balances over £250 (IIRC).

Their internet banking has worked very well for me, with all the facilities I want.

Thanks for the reply and for your experiences. One thing I wanted was an account that would not be allowed to overdraft. The intention was to run it with only sufficient funds that fraud would be limited to the amount I decided to leave in there as I do some online transactions. I was refused, "Ah no one (bank?) will agree to that" I was told. Cheers jim

My vote would be another one for Smile, but their current account does come with a 500 overdraft facility "automatically". I don't know if they would be prepared to drop it lower than that - slightly different, but I wanted a credit card with a really low limit because I wanted to use it for continuous payments and 500 was as low as they could go on that. You'll lose nothing in asking the question though.

Tell them you want an overdraft of £1 then. We were told this nonsense for our joint account - that we HAD to have an overdraft limit. Surely though you are expectiong the bank to stop transactions which would take you over the limit but chances are they would charge you for going overdrawn and you'd have to get back the charges whilst sorting any fraud out. Get a Credit card with a tight limit - I assume these stop letting you spend once you've reached it.(but could be wrong)

Yes....

Oh yes.

I think that they must make much of their profit from this penal attitude and charges and certainly will not give up their right to it. Once upon a time things were different....

I let them 'sell' me one but I haven't used it. I'm one of those peeps that never gets the dates right and always end up getting charged. I cut up my last one and vowed never again. But it would be handy as guarantor (not right word isit) if I bought online etc. cheers jim
