What is the order of the world's top 10 biggest investment banks?
'Top' in what sense?
T.
I mean top as in size. My mate reckons the top 3 are as follows, but I'm not sure:
Merrill Lynch Morgan Stanley CSFB
Details here
Like anything, opinions differ. Some people consider Mizuho to be largest. It all depends what you want to include as being part of the bank, what date you use, what exchange rate you use, whether you judge by capitalisation, number of employees, etc., etc., etc..
I would imagine that every one of those in the list could justifiably be split into smaller parts for your analysis and taken out of the top 10 so don't blame me if another list is completely different.

By what measure?
Biggest offices?
Market Capitalisation?
Most Assets? (Loans)
Most Liabilities (Deposits)
Most Customers?
Most retained Shareholders Funds?
Etc.,,,,

This reply looks like another spam to sell a domain name if you ask me.............
Its contents are worthless.
...unless you just want a list of the top 10 banks which is what the original poster asked for. I wont deny I'm plugging a link, but unlike any other poster, it does answer the question.

No, its a list of some banks in no particular order.
Perhaps you would like to produce a list yourself instead of criticising. It would be time better spent.

The "link" says "Top World Banks by Size" but gives no indication of the
*definition* of "size" used. Hence, it *is* pretty useless. If you would care to elaborate on the factors used in determining "size", and on the relative amounts of these "sizes" for each of the quoted banks - then it might start to become a little useful ....

No need, try
If its wrong then I will criticise it.
For you, I suggest.
A useful link, although it doesn't actually list the top 10 banks.
As for time better spent, I feel it is indeed better to spend time building rather than knocking down.

True, but it does supply an accurate and authoritative source (admittedly for a fee).
Better, perhaps, to build something of quality
Continually advertising sites purporting to be authoritative when in fact they carry largely inaccurate information, such as 'topbanks' and your EFTPOS site, and which you propound as being authoritative purely for the purpose of you being able to sell the domain name, will continue to receive my criticism in the public domain so as to deter the unwary for falling for your scams.

So why no 'Bank of America' or 'RBS' and how do YOU define 'assets' and why choose that as an indicator of size?
HSBC assets should be US$1,034,216,000,000 shouldnt they?
Ouch.
Exactly how am I scamming people? Perhaps you could mention what you would do if you owned a few domains while working full-time in another area.
Now that sounds more like a scam to me.
BTW thank you for (constructively) pointing out a couple of errors. I have amended the TopBanks table accordingly.

At which date(s) do (/did!) the figures apply?
The latest available published accounts.
"dp" wrote
So, at different dates and hence the figures cannot be directly compared??
If you can persuade all banks to adopt the same year end, I would be happy to use figures at the same date, otherwise I will use the best figures available. Realistic suggestions are welcome.
