Top banks

You might want to define 'Top 5'. In terms of size or quality/customer service?

Someone asked a similar question a while ago about the top world banks. I spent several hours gathering information and published it on

then I spent even more time justifying what I had done in this forum and I received some impolite criticism. This time I will merely tell you how to compile the list.

I am sure if you really want to know this information you can find it out yourself. Get a list of UK banks from the FT perhaps, go to each banks web site and find a copy of the latest annual report. In the annual report you will find figures for total assets, net assets, etc., just decide which figure you want to use and Bob's your uncle. Even easier, if you want to use market capitalisation, this used to be published for every listed company in The Times on Mondays.

To start you off, HSBC will be the largest of the UK high street banks.

Thanks for your hints. I am interested in this information as I am looking into developing a software solution that would be targeted at the top UK banks. In terms of what 'top' means, I am specifically looking for the top five retail and top five commercial banks in terms of number of customers, customer service ratings, turnover etc.

These hints should give me some direction to try and research the topic on the web and find the answer i'm looking for - much appreciated DP!
