It's a computer control problem and/or a manual control problem. The computer is supposed to prevent duplicate entries, or the management in personnel is supposed to review the report of all personnel data master file changes and detect the duplicate record.

According to my current Auditing II class, this is what is supposed to be done. However, try to find managers that have time to look at boring reports.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Acturally I am practicing an software and look for duplicate records for the employee file. So I think, if there are duplicate employee records, what should be paied attention to if I am the auditor.

I think you are correct! So, the payroll checks are printed just according to the employee records? I mean how many records there are in the employee file, there would be how many payroll checks?

I have very little experience about accounting practice. Really appreciate your help!

If "Irene" is set up twice in the personnel files, and showing twice as an active employee, one should be looking for two paychecks.

One of the other things to be looking for is duplicate addresses......both for employees and vendors.....you're looking for an employee who is fraudulently billing the company, etc.
