Taxes

I have tax clients that are eligible for free tax preperation through the IRS web site. (Under $50,000 per year income?)

I wasn't aware they had this in previous years but apparently they did.

If they go through the IRS web site and utilize the free tax feature do they get an inferior result than if they use the paid tax products from Turbo tax, H&R Block, etc.?

Also what is the catch? If H&R Block/Turbo tax/etc. are offering "free" tax prep where are they making their money? Somewhere in there they have to make money to justify the huge expensive of making the software.

Do they know what they are doing? Either way they'll get what they put into it.

The "catch" is the IRS forced the tax prep software companies to play nice.

From those who don't qualify for "free", for the refund loan provisions and fees (some reaching over 300% interest).

Naaaaa They make it in India paying some Punjabi $3 a day.
