Which retail pos system best for inventory management

A friend who has been operating a retail cooking and cookware store recently amazed me when I watched her ring up a cash transaction. She has a AccuPOS Retail POS system and associated QuickBooks Pro software and only uses the cash drawer to hold the cash.

I asked her how she managers her large inventory of very pricey products - reorders when there is an empty spot on the shelf. She knows she is making money cause her bank balance is growing.

I kid you not.

I have been asked to help her manage her business as a favor. I want to concentrate on inventory control and after getting into the Quickbooks Pro AccuPOS platform I am amazed at how little granularity this system is based upon.

I want a system that will easily generate a range of inventory control reports at a SKU level and also has the ability to generate generate inventory analysis on groups of SKU's by manufacturer and type of product.

I watched another friend with a small retail store generate reports using the MS POS software product - it appeared to have a lot more detailed info and be a lot more flexible than the QB/AccuPOS product.

I guess the ideal product would be based upon a relational database platform with no limits as to the amount of detail could be included with each SKU.

Any suggestions? Buying another product is no big deal - would hate to put a lot of effort into a inferior product and be stuck with that product.

Thanks

We have a powerful application framework that provides integrated POS and general ledger functions on which we could easily build a customised solution for your friend's business.

All you have to do is decide which features you would like and we can quickly build it to your exact requirements.

Our framework uses the Interbase/Firebird relational database so you could use any compatible SQL reporting tool.

Thanks for the response - I just discovered Quickbooks now has their Enterprise version with a Sybase RDB. Will check out your product also.

Thanks again.
