Inventory Management for Magazine Sales

We have a client who sells magazines and is looking for a process to track sales and inventory.

They do not wish to track individual title costs, but just sales and inventory - a generic Item Code will be used and the cashier will enter the appropriate price.

They will receive a shipment of magazines each week or month, depending upon the supplier. At the end of that period, they will return the quantities not sold and receive credit from the supplier for those returned.

Ex: Today: Have 30 Tomorrow: Receive Shipment w/ 100; return 30 remaining

  • Is there a documented process for newsstand-related activities - KB Article, someone else having already done this, etc.?
  • Could Transfer Inventory In/Out be used, or does it over-complicate the issue?
  • Or, does the generic magazine item be defined as non-inventory and forget about inventory control?

Thanks, Kevin

If you're going to use non-inventory item's, then there's no inventory control. You can't put non-inventory items on POs.

If they're not going to track inventory, they might as well use a cash register :)
