Does anyone have a recommendation for a good large value domestic stock fund?
I'm looking for something good if not better (something may not be, I don't know) than DODGX. Basically looking for a similar if not better fund if possible. Long-term returns matter most to me, and a solid management I think is crucial.
Are you looking for a substitute for DODGX (since it's closed to new investors), or just another strong value-oriented fund to augment an existing core holding in DODGX? If the former, you might look into OAKMX. If the latter, you might look at PRWCX or MUHLX, depending on your risk tolerance.
Take a look at Selected American, class D (SLADX). While Morningstar considers this a large cap blend fund, it is right on the boundary between value and blend (as is D&C) - see portfolio plots at:

FWIW, S&P calls it a large cap value fund, and says it behaves as if 75% of its portfolio were large cap value (most of the rest of the behavior being like bonds).
Similar Market Cap to D&C ($40B vs $43B for D&C). Somewhat similar foreign exposure (10% vs. 16%). Similar miniscule turnover (4% vs. 12%).
Long term, solid management - a dozen years (okay, so that's small compared with D&C :-). Selected, like D&C, is very shareholder friendly. Similar low cost (0.60% vs. 0.52% for D&C).
