Acessing RMS data from Microsoft Excel

Can Anyone advise if I can create a link in Microsoft Excel straight to my RMS database file so I can do Pivot Table directly on RMS data rather than having to run sales reports then importing into excel ?

Thanks

Simple! Just create an ODBC Datasource that points to your RMS Database. After that you can use the Datasource to access the database directly from excel by importing the data you want. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to do joins so you'll be only able to read one table after another.

Sorry for not giving you a detailed How-To but I only have a german version here which probably wouldn't help you much.

I have the same issue. I have created a view over my daily sales and can import the data into Excel. At the moment I get all my sales data. I would like to apply a filter (i.e. date) but have not figured out how to add the filter to the import statement.

Joins and filters are pretty easy. Just use MSQuery. This is accessible as a datasource from within Excel.

In Excel,

Click DATA then IMPORT EXTERNAL DATA then NEW DATABASE QUERY

attach to your RMS database and query away.

Then, you can manipulate the data just like any other spreadsheet.

You can also use SQL requests too in MSQUERY.

Hello Mickie,

Your reply to this thread has me very interested in the process. Not having done much of this kind of work with Excel, I am clueless about getting started. Would you mind sending an example excel document that is connected to the RMS database that "works" so I see what is happening. I am definitely a hands-on learner.

Thanks for your time and assistance,
