Categories and Departments

Hello All:

I was wondering if I could get some help.

I'm basically setting up MS POS in a Woment's Boutique and I'm at the part of setting up Categories and Departments. I wonder if the following Departments and Categories are the best way to set this up. If you feel there is a better way, please suggest one.

Departments, only one since it is a boutique - Women Categories: 1. Jackets 2. Pants 3. Blouses 4. Shoes 5. Skirts 6. Dresses 7. Tanks 8. Sweaters 9. Tops

Any help, or suggestions you could provide would be Wonderful.

Thanks in advance.

hi Luis, Yes your grouping are good enough, but what in future you may need in specific just giving you idea that about the shoes if you wanted to have reporting by brand then sheos will be departments and brands will be categories. rest your grouping are fine.

Thank You Akber.

You bring up an interesting point. The place mostly sells clothing with a heavy emphasis on brand names. Would it be better for me to have departments with brand names and categories listed below? Somthing like this?

Department: Brand Vendor A: > Categories: > 1. Jackets > 2. Pants > 3. Blouses > 5. Skirts > 6. Dresses > 7. Tanks > 8. Sweaters > 9. Tops

Department: Brand Vendor B: > Categories: > 1. Jackets > 2. Pants > 3. Blouses > 5. Skirts > 6. Dresses > 7. Tanks > 8. Sweaters > 9. Tops

Department: Shoes no Categories

Department: Accessories > 1. Scarves > 2. Belts > 3. Jewelry

Or, have an arrangment like this?

Department: Jackets > Categories: > Brand A > Brand B > Brand C

Department: Pants > Categories: > Brand A > Brand B > Brand C

Department: Accessories > 1. Scarves > 2. Belts > 3. Jewelry

These are ok but don't forget you need to comeup with Categories as wel. Generally your departments are more general and categories more specific. As long you have different types of Jackets, pants, tanks, etc. these are fine. If you don't maybe you shoulkd have "tops" as a department and Jackets, tanks, sweaters, etc. be categories...Just a thought...
