Changing PO XML

I am using RMS1.2. I wanted to change the Purchase Order XML to rearrange the PO line fields. I made the changes and saved the report. After the change I set the read-only flag again. I had used a regular text editor for the change and saved the change to the original file name.

However when I want to print my PO I get an error message that I don't use a correct XML report.

Is there something "special" I need to do to make the change and save my file?

The message probably said something to the effect that the XML document is not well formed. That means you have a syntax error in the document - probably a missing end tag, but it could be a lot of things.

In XML, all tags need to be terminated...

If you have a , you must have a to close it. Notepad doesn't do anything to help you with XML Syntax. You can try opening the XML file in IE - by default, IE will try to display the XML in a sort of outline format and it should give you an error message if the file is not well formed....

I have also noticed that when using notepad even if all of the tags are closed that the file can get errors. Mostly dealing with empty space... go figure. I usually use Front Page.

I had used Textpad as my editor as it knows about xml syntax. However I still got the error.

I then loaded it into FrontPage (which did not show any errors) and saved it to the original name and this time it worked just fine. So obviously my Textpad editor saved it in a form that RMS did not accept.

Thanks for pointing me into the right direction.

FWIW the Zeus for Windows editor will do XML syntax highlighting:

Note: Zeus is shareware (45 day trial) It even does XML code folding.
