Credit Card Charges

HI, I want to setup a line item called 'Amex Charge' which takes the value of the total sale and automatically calculates 2.5% of it and adds it to the sale. Is this possible and if so how? If not, then what suggestions can I have to add credit card charges to the sale?

HI Dan, tell me do you have back office system i.e. MS Dynamics GP (Great Plains) or not if so then you can handle the similar task with creating the tender type. However the other way around if going through RMS is that you can create the Sales Tax type AMC -Amex Charge give the percentage to it and when on POS press Shift F12 to make it active /deactive.

There could be some 3-party products for this but I am not sure it is available > HI,

Read your agreement with AmEx and also consult local regulations. This practice is at best 'discouraged' and is actually illegal in several states. Here's a link to a discussion of the topic; this is really from the consumer's point of view, but it's a start...

You might want to check your merchant agreement. Usually this practice is a breach of your contract. You can give a "cash discount," but can't charge extra for credit cards.

Anyway, to answer your question, you could use a negative discount scheme to make this work. We add a charge for certain government credit purchases to cover excess costs in our country.

In Australia this is quite legal. It is expected by the consumer that a charge is made for amex and diners given the horrific fees they charge. Still this is off topic, so what options do I really have for automating the calculation of a 2.5% value of the total transaction as a line item? Essentially I want to add a line item at the pos with a custom button that loops through all line items already on the screen, sums up the retail cost, works out 2.5% and inserts this line item so the sale can proceed? Ideas would be very helpful. I read somewhere that this may be possible in Visual basic. Where can I get a visual basic ide?

Hello there,

We have a similar situation particularly while selling Liquor on commission basis. I would like to give my customers opportunity to pay for the liquor using credit card but charge them a "convenience fee" similar to what is charged by government agencies and utilities companies when you make payment by credit card. Is there a way RMS can calculate the fees automatically for the items of Liquor department purchased when a customer wants to pay by CC. Any suggestions how this can be accomplished? This can be a flat fee based on slabs like upto $50, next upto $100 and so on.
