But RMS earlier verison you could use Visual Studio 6. From Customization Guide: "Future versions of Microsoft Retail Management System will be in .NET. You can create add-ins for the current version either by writing in Visual Studio

6 or by writ> Yes You can Code with .net for RMS custom applications

RMS 2.0 is not written in .NET, but RMS 3.0 will be.

Jason, They can be written in .net, c++, Java, VB 6 or any other language that can access COM. For RMS 3.0 I *think* .net will be required.

By .net do you mean 2003 or can I write a dll in Visual Studio 2005 or 2008?

In RMS you can write with all 5 versions of .net (1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5) with RMS 3.0 you'll need .net 2.0 or better.

What they are saying is that if you wrote it in VB6, you will definately have to change at some point. Right now with RMS 2.0, you can write Add-ins with Visual Studio 2003. I hear that 2005 has some issues. Now the question is do you want to code in VB.NET or C#. It is far easier to code it in VB.NET 2003 if you follow the examples in the documentation. When they release version 3 of RMS it will be written in the .NET platform, so I doubt that most of the add-ins already created will work anymore. I am looking forward to that though, because it will be much easier to code in C#.NET. To answer your question (if I understand it), Write your addins in VB.NET 2003 and you shouldnt have too many problems. If you are still in love with VB6, write it in VB6. Both will work with RMS 2.0

Hope that answers your question
