RMS 2.0 ?

Can anybody point me to information in regards to the next RMS upgrade? I thought we were going to get a RMS 1.4 upgrade in the 2nd quarter of 2006. Has this been changed to a 2.0 upgrade sometime in 2007? If so what are the enhanced or new features and when exactly is MS promising us this update/upgrade?

Of course we were promised a 2.0 upgrade by Microsoft in 2004 that would be available in 2005 at

This promising and not delivering is getting old quick. RMS is a great product but hasn't (really) changed for over 3 years now. This is one of the only MS products that hasn't changed for that long.

I remember reading the info in the link some time ago. It looks like RMS is very low on the Microsoft priority list. I also saw a bunch of info some time ago about MS exploring RFID (among other things) for supply chain and even POS but nothing has come of it. Hopefully version 2.0 of RMS will be so feature packed and rock solid that it will be worth the wait....I hope...

3.0 is going to be the biggie. 2.0 looks more like a misnamed 1.4 or 1.5 to me. Don't get me wrong, there are improvements planned for the 2.0 release, but IMHO they are incremental updates more fitting to a 'point release' than a new version number. 3.0 is slated to be the truly new product that everyone is waiting to see.

I really do think that MS has turned the corner on following up on promises with this product. The road map is much more specific and realistic that it was in years past - the years that it was even published that is. Look for 2.0 in early 2007 and 3.0 in early 2008. Expect some added functionality in 2.0, but no major interface changes - meaning prepare to be disappointed. 3.0 should have MSPOS interface and usability with at least the RMS 2.0 feature set - this is the one to look forward to.
