Dollar Amount Discount

Sep 18, 2007 3 Replies

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how to handle doing a specific dollar amount discount in POS

  1. We have some coupons that we have issued that have specific amounts, such as " off of your next purchase". This seems like it would be a very simple thing to do, but I haven't figured out how to accomplish this as all of the discount options that I've seen are in percentages.

One thing that I tried was creating a "Discount" item, adding that to the sale and plugging in the value of the discount as a negative amount. And while the transaction went through, it screwed up in syncing back to Office Accounting. It gave an error that "Unit Price can not be negative", and wouldn't post back.

So does anyone have suggestions about how to accomplish this type of discount?

Thanks in advance,

-R

Although this works from a total sale point of view - its not very realistic because at item level you are not actually discounting the item.

there are add-ons availalbe which you could use to automate the whole discount coupon thing effectively and accurately.

and look at the promotions module!

We have a loyalty club that offers a specific dollar discount in the form of a coupon. We have set up a tender type named "Club Discount" and when a customer is redeeming his/her discount, we enter the discount "coupon" in this tender line. I then have a record of discounts applied on the "Z" as well as any tender reports I run. While this may not be the best method, it has worked for us.
