Duplicate Customers - Merge Transaction History?

Howdy,

First-- sorry I keep duplicating my posts...How about a Preview pane? Microsoft?

I have customers who appear multiple times in my database.. (due to different spellings or just duplicate entries) this is not a problem if they have no purchase history, but when both instances have significant histories it doesn't allow me to get a true lifetime value or number of visits etc...Often it is customers who visit often, but go by a nickname or a name different than on their credit card. This must happen all the time for brick and mortar retailers with a webstore, No??

I want to merge their purchase histories to get an accurate view of their shopping. I can identify them manually by searching for similar names and addresses etc.

I need a SQL statement to update the transactions to the customer I want to keep so I can delete the duplicate record.

much appreciated

Have you checked the Knowledge base on Customer Source? I'm pretty sure I saw an article that addresses merging customer records...

How do you know which one to keep and which one not to keep? Therein lies the problem. mt

It would be nice if RMS came up with a pop-up window before it committed the new customer if the information was close to make sure that you weren't entering a duplicate customer in the first place. Another program that we work with for another business has that feature, and it has saved us TONS of headaches, that we are now starting to find in our RMS database
