May not help, and.I'm new to all of this, but we set up a tender type labeled for our stand-alone Eclipse terminal (which we use for electronic checks, debit cards, and gift cards). I run the gift card transaction on RMS as a sale (having created an inventory item for gift cards), then load the gift card on the Eclipse. It works fine so far, but we've only SOLD gift cards and haven't yet dedeemed one. Not sure how that will go.

Just a note: much of the oddball stuff I have to do is because we use FirstData as our Merchant Services provider (not an RMS preferred source), and that requires us to process transactions through a separate program called ICVerify. It handles most everything OK, except for Debit Cards, and it does allow us to run gift cards. Is anyone else out there in the same boat? WOuld love to share ideas.

Sharing my idea ;) I process through Mercury payment, and they do gift cards as well as debit / credit. They told me that one way to do a gift card was to have it be an item that was not a sale, until it is redeemed. That makes sence to me, although I'm not sure how to note this exactly. The reason it makes sence though is because true there is money comming in, but nothing has been purchased, and when something is actually purchased that or those items will be sold out for in a way cash. Anyhow...I need to work out details, but this idea seemed like a pretty good one. Any others out there who are doing it?
