Help ILC relationship (please)

We sell fabric which is received by the bolt - a bolt can contain anywhere from 7 meters to 13.5 meters. When we receive the bolt we make a few usually

2 Fat quarters (which is a half meter cut in half along the fold). We want to be able to track these inventory items separately but ordered from supplier as one item.

Tried using Parent/Child ILC - ILC for regular bolt by the meter ILC for fat quarter (child of above with child quantity 4)

My Fat quarters only appear in inventory after the first purchase and 4 show up (i.e.: 1 sold and three created).

I would like to be able to transfer .5 meter out of ILC- regular bolt of fabric to 2 @ ILC for fat quarter. Can transfers be done between ILC...

Any suggestion on how this can be done?

Any other suggestions on how to deal with this...

I have only used standard items - maybe lot matrix could help.

Danny,

I had a similar situation with a client where they were order rolls of plastic to create electronic bags. Depending on the ply of the plastic the weight (in lbs) was different and of course the greater weight didn't necessarily create more bags since it could have been the multi-ply plastic.

I would create two part numbers, one for the regular bolt and fat bolt. Enter your vendor xref number for each as the same thing. Enter your conversion from order to stocking UOM appropriately. What is your stocking unit? Meters? I'm assuming they each the same width, otherwise you might have to create part numbers for each width as well. Your receiving dept will have to figure out which part number to receive the roll under when it comes in so that your inventory is accurate.

I don't think your lot/serial number idea will work mainly because when you take the roll and produce something from it, you won't know what kind of roll that they are pulling to start the production or how much scrap or pieces you'll be able to get out of it.

Hope this helps.
