HQ and modem exchange

If a modem must be used for the exchange between HQ and the stores, what is the best way to do that? Should they have an internet account setup through dial up and connect that way? Does the HQ need a static IP address? Does that IP address need to be routable on the internet (not a 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x). I looked in the knowledgebase but there was no one document that spelled it out very well. Or should I set it up to dial directly into the HQ modem (DUN) and have a IP pool configured for the remote stores to be assigned an IP address and exchange that way? Thanks,

Hi Pat, There are couple of way you can do,

  1. if installed windows 2K then you can use the RAS (Remote Access Admin to dial directly to HQ server) same also sometime apply on xp machine.
  2. You can also installed the Laplink 2000 software which does same like above job and is not MS operating system dependend.
  3. The third option you have is that either use the DSL or may be dialup account and get the static public IP address from your Service Provider to HQ server and at client machine enter that public IP.

Thanks Akbar, I'll give it a shot using Dial up connection in XP and the internal IP address of the HQ.
