IBM or NCR complete system?

I am in the planning stage for our three years upgrade in the fall for all our locations. We have alway been a PC base system with HP PC, Cherry Keyboard, Epson TM-T88iii Printer, Metrologic Voyager Scanner, Indiana Cash Drawer and IVI 3000 Check Scanner. My Senior Staff has express an internet in a all in one POS equipment solution to get all locations more standard.

From this user group, does anyone recommend an IBM, NCR or other complete system with RMS still being the Point-of-Sale software?

Ed,

I can't recommend one over the other, but then again I can't recommend either, either. ;-)

The biggest reason to not getting is an all-in-one is because everything in it is locked to the manufacturer. You will have to go back to that manufacturer for any replacement pieces because they usually tweak them just enough to make the parts different just for them. Power supply fails, back to IBM. Keyboard fails, back to NCR, etc. Your decision for HP/Dell/Gateway etc, also has the same problem.

By using industry standard parts, replacement can be as close as your local computer store, Office Depot/Max/Staples.

I can get Pioneer POS stations with touchscreen and everything for $1300. I used to buy Dells and ELO monitors and would have to modify the setup thus spending $1200 per station.

The Pioneer solution has everything you need and it looks way cool.
