Is it Possible To Recycle/Reuse Gift Cards?

So I am assuming you are using these cards with the Voucher system, follow these steps below:

1. Start Store Operations POS.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+F3 keys to open the Voucher Details window.
3. Type or scan the Gift Card/Certificate number and then click Find.
4. Write down the current balance, click OK, and then click OK again to get back to the main POS screen. In this example, we'll say the balance is 35.00.
5. Type, scan or use F2: Lookup to enter the Item Lookup Code for your Gift Card/Certificate item.
6. Enter the Gift Card/Certificate number.
7. Click Yes to continue when you receive the warning message that the serial number has already been sold. Note If you receive a "Invalid Operation 433: This serial number has already been sold" error, follow these steps. If you do not receive this message, continue with step 8. a. Start Store Operations Manager, click File, and then click Configuration. b. Click the Options tab, expand the Serial Number options folder, and then click to clear the Enforce unique serial numbers check box. c. Click OK to save your changes. d. Restart Store Operations POS, and then return to step 5.
8. For the price, enter the amount they want to add to the Gift Card plus the current balance from step 4. For example, if they want to add .00 to the Gift Card you would enter .00 for the price (.00 + .00).
9. F12: Tender.
10. On the Gift Card line enter the original amount that was on the Gift Card. In this example it would be .00.
11. Enter the amount that they are adding to the card in the appropriate Tender. In this example, .00 on the cash line if they are paying with cash.
12. Click OK to process the transaction.
13. To verify that the adjustment was made correctly, press CTRL+SHIFT+F3, and then enter the Gift Certificate number. There will be 2 Gift Cards listed. One will show a balance of 1. To verify that the adjustment was made correctly, press CTRL+SHIFT+F3, and then enter the Gift Certificate number. There will be 2 Gift Cards listed. One will show a balance of $0; and the other will show the correct value, in this example $85.00.; and the other will show the correct value, in this example .00.

MS please fix this to be easier. I was sold on the "rechargable" gift card function, so why is this a work around as mentioned in the knowledgebase??
