manual inventory quandry (liquor wine)

we just did our physical inventory. manual entry of the nearly 5000 items took 4 days. we had on going sales during ths time. i reset all inventory quantitys to 0 before entering the count so that sales during the entry time would reflect as a negative quantity on hand thinking that when the count was commtted that the QOH and count would reconcile, this does not appear to be the case.

any ideas please

First of all not sure why you would want to set it them to zero unless you were about to start out. But even then it wouldnt really matter. But you can just put a blank file in and since nothing is there everything will be zero after you save it. Kinnard what you said about adding to that makes sense but what i dont understand is why dont you get the scann data CSV file and add to it there. But i see where you are coming from as well. The problem I dont like about the physical inventory count is the fact that if you have parent/ child items it kinda screws you up. For instance Cartons of cigs have

10 packs > Doug

WOW! I thought I was the only one with inventory issues. Our partner does not speak English as a first language and we had many miscommunications from the very beginning. We too have 5000+ items in our inventory that we counted by hand. If I ran across an item that was not in our database, but obviously for sale in our store, I created the item and then I did a separate physical inventory sheet for them. I have not experienced any problems with our inventory being way off from the time of entering and time of committal. If I counted an item on the third of January, and I entered it today with the count date of 1-3, it appears that sales were taking into consideration. I have been working on inventory since 12-31-07. I still have a ton to learn, and seemingly on my own since the "training" we go from our partner SUCKED! That is another long story. We've had RMS since August and my boss is ready to put it in the dumpster and try Quickbooks POS. I think he wants to see my head spin!
