Update QuickBooks
Release 3 of QuickBooks 2006 for Windows - All Editions
This document summarizes changes and improvements made in Release 3 of all editions of
QuickBooks 2006 for Windows. Release 3 includes all changes that have been made to your
QuickBooks 2006 software since it was first released.
Installing Release 3
To update your QuickBooks program with the Release 3 changes, close QuickBooks and
reopen QuickBooks. At the prompt to install the update now, answer "Yes." The update
process may take several minutes. (If you choose not to update when you open QuickBooks,
the message will appear each time you open QuickBooks until the update is completed.)
After completing the update, we recommend that you restart your computer.
Installing Release 3 in a Multi-User Environment
If you use QuickBooks in multi-user mode, Intuit strongly recommends installing the product
release on each computer using QuickBooks. After downloading the product release to your
specified shared file location, you will be prompted when you open QuickBooks to install on
each computer that shares the data file. For more information on sharing updates in a multi
user environment, choose Update QuickBooks from the Help menu, click Help in the
Update QuickBooks window, and then select the help topic link titled Sharing updates in a
multi-user environment.
Summary of Release 3 Changes
The following list summarizes all changes or improvements made in Release 3:
Centers
QuickBooks now includes the option to toggle the Navigation Bar on and off. (R3)
Improved navigation, Using Keyboard shortcuts to navigate through the Customer and
Vendor lists. (R3)
Database
QuickBooks now provides better messaging when connection to the database has been
lost. (R3)
QuickBooks no longer displays the error "-1,0" when migrating company data files with no
Admin record name to QuickBooks 2006. (R3)
QuickBooks now provides better messaging during company file migration to QuickBooks
2006. (R3)
QuickBooks no longer displays the error "C"4" when backing up or rebuilding company
data files. (R3)
QuickBooks no longer displays the error "-6154,0" when saving a new company file
logged in as a Windows Power User rights. (R3)
Rebuild no longer fails when encountering inventory item history damage. (R3)
Links between Bills and Bill Credits no longer become broken when printing Bill Payments
or Bill Payment Stubs. (R3)
QuickBooks no longer displays the error "Cˆ" when memorizing a report that contains

QuickBooks no longer displays the error "Cˆ" when memorizing a report that contains
more than 6349 items. (R3)
File Operations
Deposited sales receipts will no longer appear to be linked to the deposit once the sales
receipt has been deleted. (R2)
Lists
Using the list Search function from the customer list in multi user mode will no longer
prevent other logged on users from entering transactions in other areas of the program.

QuickBooks no longer displays a warning message when promoting or demoting an item
in "Flat Mode" in the Item List. (R3)
Changing an Account to a Sub-Account is no longer slow when using the mouse to drag
and drop the account. (R3)
QuickBooks no longer generates a runtime error when moving bank accounts using drag
and drop. (R3)
Cancelling a customer record after adding a Ship To address will now warn that the edits
will not be saved. (R3)
Navigating the Customer List when typing a Customer name is improved with large (i.e.
more than 6000) Customer Lists. (R3)
Install
QuickBooks no longer displays error, "Error 1911" during the installation of QuickBooks
2006. (R3)
Inventory
QuickBooks now correctly displays the item description for Assembly items on the
Physical Inventory Worksheet. (R3)
Memorized Transactions
QuickBooks will no longer display the error "Assertion Failed" when entering a memorized
invoice with items with zero quantity available. (R3)
Memorized checks will now retain their "to be printed" status. (R3)
Multi User Hosting
QuickBooks now includes better messaging to explain how to set up Multi User access in
Recommended Mode. (R3)
Quicken Convert
Transactions that include balance sheet accounts will now convert correctly when
converting Quicken data to QuickBooks format. (R2)
A QuickBooks data file that was originally converted from Quicken, and then uses the
Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac option, will no longer appear to have transaction
damage in the Qbwin.log file. (R2)

Other: Expert Analysis
Creating Expert Analysis reports will no longer display an Active X error, and will now
generate the report correctly. (R2)
Other: Invoice Manager
Invoice Manager no longer displays an alert when creating a new data file. (R3)
Other: Technical Support Helper
Sending log files to Intuit will no longer generate an error. (R3)
Payroll
QuickBooks no longer displays the error, "Error 557" when viewing the welcome page
after upgrading from a prior version. (R3)
Dates will now correctly display when creating paychecks using Semi-weekly payroll
setting. (R3)
QuickBooks now includes the ability to e-mail paycheck stubs. (R3)
QuickBooks no longer crashes when adding a payroll liability agency to a payroll item in
the Pay Liabilities window in Multi User mode. (R3)
QuickBooks will no longer display empty rows at the bottom of the "Select Employees to
Pay" screen after creating paychecks. (R3)
Payroll - Direct Deposit
Clearing Direct Deposit settings for an employee now works correctly when using multiple
Direct Deposit accounts. (R3)
Payroll - Disk Delivery
QuickBooks no longer displays Error, "404" when viewing the Welcome Page after
entering the Disk Delivery Service Key. (R3)
Permissions (Enterprise Only)
QuickBooks Enterprise will no longer intermittently lose permissions while logged into the
company file in Multi User Mode. (R3)
Preferences
Using the Auto Drop-down setting will now work correctly when entering account
numbers. (R3)
Printing
Printing custom filter results will now print the items displayed on the screen when
searching from within search results. (R3)
QuickBooks Error Reporting
QuickBooks will no longer display the error code 08328 07843 when editing a transaction
in multi user mode. (R2)
QuickBooks Merchant Account Service

Choosing to "Get Funding Status" will no longer display error messages for Merchant
Account Service users with "TicketOnly" transactions. (R3)
QuickBooks Online Banking
QuickBooks now takes less time to display the "Add Multiple" transactions window. (R3)
Check transactions are now "matched" correctly when downloading from the Online
Banking Center. (R3)
QuickBooks Update
QuickBooks update will no longer crash in qbpatch.exe when applying the product update
logged in as a Windows Power User. (R2)
QuickBooks update will now provide the option to "restart later" when installing the
product update. (R2)
QuickBooks will no longer generate an error when installing the product update to the root
directory of the system. (R2)
Registration
QuickBooks will no longer display the error, "Error 3371 Could not load License data"
when registering QuickBooks Enterprise Edition 06 in a Terminal Services environment.

Reports
Reports will no longer refresh multiple times after editing a transaction that is included in
the report. (R2)
Audit Trail reports will no longer display transactions as "modified" when the transaction
creation and modification timestamps differ because of print or e-mail flags. (R3)
User Interface
QuickBooks Vendor and Customer centers will now display all items correctly in 800 X
600 resolution when the window is resized. (R2)
Pressing any key will no longer move the highlight to the top of the transaction list on the
Transaction Pane of the Centers. (R3)
