Quicken 2007 R2 (Canadian) crashes after loading

Following an update that was pushed from Quicken yesterday when I used the updater to download quotes, I can no longer use Quicken.

When I load Quicken, the splash screen displays, the 3 tones are heard, but no file (from last session) is loaded. The "FIle Open" menu is not functional, and in fact Quicken has unloaded by this time.

I watched the Task Manager APplication list as QUicken loaded - it was there for a second or so then disappeared.

Un-installing and re-installing original disk (with or without update to R2 during installation) produced same results as above.

Running in SAFE mode also ended with same results.

Has anyone else experienced this problem. Until that update the other day, Quicken was functioning OK. Interestingly, I checked the version number after that update yesterday, and it still showed R2. The update was very quick, lasting only a second or so.

Thanks Bruce

I use the US version of Quicken, so I have no idea whether XG has any of the same behaviors as the US version.

But to test for possible similarities, what happens when you hold down CTRL when you start Quicken? Does Quicken start successfully, with no file open? Can you then create a "New" Quicken file? Do you have other Quicken file(s) besides the file that Quicken normally opens when you start Quicken? If so, can you open those other files?

Thanks for your suggestions

I discovered, after a lot of playing around, that the last file that I was using before I closed Quicken must have become corrupted just as Quicken closed it - Quicken apparently is unable to open a corrupted file, but gives no error other than disappearing off the screen.

Just before closing QUicken, I had backed up the same file, which does open normally... go figure!

The way I got things working again was to double-click another Quicken QDF file, which, since it was OK, opened Quicken.

Its rather bizarre that the file corruption must have occurred just as Quicken closed the file.. that's the best explanation that I can think of.

Thanks Bruce
