Online Update Problem: Quotes for some Canadian Securities off by factor of 10

FYI - I just wanted to mention a problem that one of my clients (ok my dad) is having with the quote server at the moment.

He is finding that quotes for certain Canadian securities are being expressed with the decimal point in the wrong place.

Examples of Securities Affected (all on the Canadian TSX stock exchange):

SLF - Sun Life Financial: Quoted at $500.50; actual price is more like $50.05 SU - Suncor: Quoted at $967.60; actual price is more like $96.76 TA - Transalta Utilities: Quoted at $286.70; actual price is more like $28.67 TRP - TransCanada Pipelines: Quoted at $367.29; actual price is more like $36.73

Other securities affected (I won't give the details): BMO, BNS, BCE

From what I've seen, ordinary common stocks (without dividends) are affected; other security types (mutual funds, dividend-paying securities) are not.

When I look at historical quotes, I find that quotes for July 11, 2007 (today) and June 25, 2007 (2 1/2 weeks ago) are goofed up; quotes for other dates are in the right ballpark.

==Anyway, if anybody knows more about this situation, please feel free to add details here.

I first noted this decimal problem on Stock quotes on June 30 - sent a message to Intuit.ca and they know about it.. but apparently are not in any great hurry to fix it. As I recall, my mutual funds quotes were OK on that date.

I also wrote to Quicken a little over two weeks ago and received an automated message that I could expect a reply within 48 hours. Fat chance!

MS Money is starting to look like it might be a good alternative to try as this delay in fixing this is becoming more and more irksome.

Cannot download any Canadian mutual fund or stock quotes tonight.

This problem has been occurring since about June 18th. Intuit Canada claims that fixing it is a top priority, but if that were the case it would be fixed by now.

I can confirm that this has been happening off and on (mostly on) recently. Very annoying!

am running XP Pro SP2, Quicken XG 2005 I have been experiencing the same problem. I find that it first showed up on 18 June 2007.

I did an update today at approximately 2200 PST. Because of the time zone differential, I show an entry for 19 July. This entry appears to be correct, but contains only a Price (as would be expected). The entry for 18 July is out by the 10x factor. The entry for 17 July appears to be correct. So Intuit's claim from the link above link appears to be correct. I change the date in the Investing Centre window to yesterday and get a 24+ hour-old a

I have had one stock, Crossfire Holdings, that I have been having difficulty with for several months.

I sent a note to Quicken through their web site on 14 July but got their usual but got their usual "Thank you ... we are unable to provide individual responses ..." (i.e. don't hold your breath expecting us to do anything about it). I have called Intuit twice and they have acknowledged the problem both times but would not give any time frame for repairing the problem. Interestingly, they did not refer me to the link above!

Keep at them, folks. They need to know we are getting impatient.

I've a follow up question: After Quicken has erroneously downloaded quotes for a security, is there any way to force it to get new prices, other than manually entering them?

Download again.

There is no way to know if/when Quicken will get a corrected price; but if one is available, it will be in subsequent downloads, where possible.

If the corrected price does not become available for over 5 days from the date it was current, you will probably have to initiate an Historical Price download for a period that covers the date of the incorrect price. (Check the Help in the dialog for Historical Price downloads to see if you will be able to download a price for the date in question.)

I'm running XG 2006 R2 and the problem went away once I had installed Intuit's fix. However, on Aug 24th the problem resurfaced! I'm still running XG 2006 with the patch.

I've been having recurring problems as well, even after installing the update supplied by Quicken (I also run Quicken XG 2006 R2). However, I've found that I just have to click "Update" again - the prices usually come in correctly the second time (and sometimes the third!). Mildly irritating, but much easier than entering all the prices manually.

PS - The suggestion was made a while ago that the problem stocks might have more to do with being listed on the TSX as well as the Dow Jones - my problem stocks are dividend-paying (BCE for example)
