Historical Quotes: "None of the requested securities were recognized."

(No one has responded to this on Quicken's forum so I'm reposting here.)

My Return data for my stocks and funds (YTD, 12-month, etc.) has been messed up for quite a while.

When I download my quotes every day, I find that quotes are received just fine, but the status window also displays the line that's the Subject of this post.

Are others seeing this too? What are "Historical Quotes", do they include the Return numbers? Is there any debug I can do on my end?

(Yes, I am also having problems with download of daily quotes. But even on the days when daily quotes come in OK, my Return numbers do not change.)

"Return numbers" are not downloaded. Prices are downloaded and then your investment return is calculated by Quicken.

If your return data is messed up, it means you have erroneous prices in your price history. Downloading historical quotes should correct this problem. However, not all versions of Quicken, nor all investments support downloading historical quotes. What version of Quicken are you using? What is an example of an investment you want historical quotes for (eg, stock symbol)?

The other way to fix the problem is manually. Go to the price history for your investment and peruse the data. You will likely find a price which is out of whack. Simply delete it (or enter the correct price if you know it). Repeat for other out of whack prices and this should fix the problem.

No. Portfolio View fields such as "Return (%) YTD" and "Return (%) 1- Year" are NOT calculated. These values are supplied with downloaded price quotes. And only the most recent value is retained by Quicken. Change the "As Of" date of a Portfolio view and the Return numbers do not change.

Courtesy of an Intuit employee on the "Ask The Expert" forum, here is the official explanation. They broke something. Looking at the frozen numbers in my portfolio, I'm guessing that they broke it on July 9.

"This is a program issue. The return calculations you mention are based on downloaded data, not your transactions. These values should be updated when you download quotes but they are not updating. We're aware of the issue and working to correct it but I do not expect a solution to be implemented in the near future."

"You may want to look at ROI or Avg. Annual Return instead. These numbers are based on your transactions and do not rely on downloaded data." [This isn't helpful to me... I want to see the Return numbers, which are the same apples-to-apples comparison numbers for mutual funds you can look up each day on Morningstar]

"The Return YTD issue is due to the way the quotes download data feed is manipulated for presentation in Quicken. We made some changes to the quotes feed to fix some other issues and the Return YTD info was unexpected breakage as a result of those changes."

"I understand your concern about the timeline for a resolution. Don't interpret the vague timelines for a solution to mean there isn't a solution on the way. We've identified the problem and are in the process of implementing the solution but the solution is complex. At this time, there is too much uncertainty to provide you with a date for the solution."

He further clarified that: a) this is independent of the user's version of Quicken b) it isn't related to Historical Quotes at all.
