parent reorder point problem

RMS currently attempts to reorders parent items without any context to the number of child items in stock, which is problematic for slow-moving items. There should be some provision to "look through" the parent item to the child item for the number in stock to help determine when to reorder. This could even be separate fields in the child item properties, such as "Parent Reorder Point" and "Parent Reorder Level" that would allow a user to specify at what CHIILD quantity to reorder the parent item, and how many parent items to reorder. Some provision to allow these value to override any other values in the parent item would be needed, but I leave that to the software folks.

PLEASE implement this. I have to manually override suggested reorders of parent items simply because there are zero of them in stock, yet many of the child items still in stock. It's just a matter of time before I make a mistake and fail to catch such an auto-replenish of a parent item I don't really need.

This issue has been brought up many times here, and is the reason I don't use parent/child. I use reorder points and the MPQ to get the function I need. Craig

I totally agree with you. I have a lot of items that would be a lot less of a pain in the neck to order if the parent/child relationship worked in the way that you described. However, the way that it works right now makes it useless to me, and I suspect just about everyone that doesn't want to always have full cases on hand when they have a sizable amount of child items also. Maybe they will make it useful in the next version.(yeah, right). Craig

Here is the situation where you must use parent child:

Vendor sells item in in case lot of 50. If you order ONE you get FIFTY. We send order by Electronic means and the order is generated automatically based on reorder info.

I can't figure out any other way to get the PO to order ONE when I need FIFTY each, other than manually changing the PO before sending it to the supplier and then changing it back at receiving time.

Craig - if you order from Royal Pet Supply, you have run into this. Most our other supplier are more consistent and you still order by each, even if you must order in MPQ lots.

If you have figured out another way - Please tell!
