parent/child inventory, restock & reorder amounts

If I have a starting inventory of 20 child items (the parent item comes with a quantity of 25 child items), and I want to reorder a parent item whenver there are 5 or fewer child items, how do I set:

inventory level restock amounts reorder amounts for BOTH parent and child items?

It isn't clear how these settings for the child item will affect things -- the online help was pretty unhelpful.

Thanks.

Also, I don't understand how to properly set the price and cost of the parent and child items. Do I just fill the parent price by multiplying the MPQ by the price of each child item?

For a case of 25 items costing $100, and selling for $8 each, that would be:

Parent Cost: $100 Parent Price: $200 Child Cost: $4 Child Price: $8

Is that the proper way to do this?

You can't reorder the parent based on the child quantity - the closest you can come is to reorder the parent when it's quantity reaches 0. This could be built as an add-on, but I don't know of any such add-ons that already exist.

The parent price is only important if you sell the item by the case. If you do sell by the case, you would probably give a "case discount" though.
