Reorder with parent/child items

I have some items I order by the case, but sell per each. I have these set up as parent and child items and selling works great. The problem comes when ordering.

I would like to order a new case when I have about 12 items left, but I can't figure out a way to do that.

Is there a feature I'm missing that says when child item reaches a quantity of 12 to order a parent item?

The only other thing I can come up with is when the parent item reaches 0 to order another, but that's a LOT more than I need or can keep on my shelves.

As you're figuring out Parent/Child is broke in RMS. This has been talked about at great length on this forum, but MS never does anything to address it. Until you are able to tell the system how many child items you want left in stock before ordering more parent items this feature is useless to me, you, and almost everyone else that could otherwise utilize it. As you noted it is not very often you want another case ordered as soon as you open your last one, especially if you're dealing with large quantities in a case. I'm basically stuck treating Parent/Child items like any others and manually changing the quantities on the PO before I send it, and changing them back when I receive it. It's a pain in the ass, but way better than having too much stock on hand all the time. That's something we just can't afford in this economy.

Meralee, This is a not a feature that is really built into RMS. Though it will not place order specifically, we created tool that help order in terms of Parent/Child or event deeper groupings. This tool also allows you to purchase in term of units or cases, and gives you dozens of statistical/historical information about the item(s) you are adding to an order. If you have any interest in this, please drop us an email to snipped-for-privacy@rite.us.
