Parent/Child is useless in RMS, for reasons you have figured out. Don't waste your time trying to get it to work for you, unless you don't care about having an extra case or two of product on hand all the time. This has been discussed at length in the past. Search Google Groups to see all the info. I have been forced to use MPQ along with reorder minimum and max for ordering. It works, but Parent/child relationships would be preferable. Hopefully Parent/child issues are addressed in version 3. Craig

For ordering purposes. I sell only child items but order parent items. I want to use child items to set order points but use parent items to receive items. I know i can not order based on both child and parent stock levels and I do not want to order based on just parent items because I may have too many child items.

Thanks jason

I hope they do update this feature to make it useful soon, but since it's been an issue for years without any fixes, don't bet on it. If you're able to catch every case that's ordered way too soon (thus making you overstocked on all parent/child items) and delete it it before it gets ordered, then using parent/child won't adversly effect your inventory. If you're like me, and miss them when they get put on PO's all the time, then you end up with too much inventory on hand for all those items, which is very costly. That's why we got rid of all parent/child relationships. Hopefully a fix is issued soon. Craig

Craig, Afshin I have researched this problem I know of the problem. My problem is all my parent child item are already set up. To redo 3500 items would take alot of work also all my parent items have scan codes on them that I use to enter in my po.

If this is what you want to do... You want to buy item XX by the pallet which might be 576 units and order another pallet when there are say 144 units in stock. Then the parent/child item is unsatisfactory because... When you have a full pallet in stock and sell just one unit the system will see the parent stock level as 0 and so try to order another pallet. The item supply MPQ setting is unsatisfactory because... If you use the child without a parent and set the MPQ to 576 the system will order the correct quantity at the corect time but the purchase order will show "576 units" instead of "1 pallet" and you dont want your supplier to send you 576 pallets by mistake. When you receive the pallet you want to record that as 576 units and not 1 unit as shown on the suppliers invoice. If what I have said is correct then there is a partial solution... You can edit the purchase order template to automatically replace the quantity ordered with quantity divided by MPQ when MPQ is not zero. This only changes what is printed. The big advantage of this solution is... It has no impact your database or RMS software. The remaining problems are... You still have to receive the 1 pallet as 576 without any prompting. The extended price on the purchase order might round incorrectly - by just a cent or two. You might want the word "pallet" to show in a new column on the purchase order unless you can include the word in the re-order number. This can be done, and you could change the word to "case" when the quantity is less than say 40. Does this sound like a workable solution?
