Payment Processing

We are in the process of installing RMS. Our reseller advised going with Mercury Payment Systems. What are the pros and cons and are there alternatives that are better?

Thanks.

Biggest pro is that they know RMS, so they can support any credit card - RMS related issues that you may run into (ie problems settling the EDC batch); they also take advantage of the built-in EDC processing, meaning you don't need to spend any money on additional software like PC Charge; I think they also have a gift card program and they developed a signature capure add-on for RMS.

Cons? - they may not have the absolute lowest rates in the industry - although they are very competitive - but then again, you may be big enough to negotiate some killer rates from them.

Overall they are a good > We are in the process of installing RMS. Our reseller advised going with

Make sure you check when the funds are made available to you. If I remember Mercury can hold the funds for up to 48 hours (longer if over a weekend). I use PC Charge and Wells Fargo as my processor. I do a close at 8pm each night and the funds are in my account (a Wells Fargo acct) by 6am the next day (even on the weekends). My CC rates are about the same as Mercury also.

Just something to think about. Ed

If you have any plans on doing Debit stay away from PCCharge, The additional fees for the debit addon then the licensing and then if it will work all the time and work correctly can be a nightmare. Mercury is a winner in my view. I have 3 stores running all on MErcury. One good thing is that Mercury will handle all your gift cards even through a multistore enviroment and they do it for free. Most processors want a chunk of that revenue.

One thing to keep in mind if your partner is good they will show you how RMS can handle gift cards without the need of a processor if your processor wont do them for free.

Regarding Rates its like any processor negotiate negotiate negotiate.

Not sure I understand your issue. I'm using debit processing along with the CC's and your right that I had to purchase a debit add-on (around $200) but the fees are not any different than other debit processors. Maybe I was just lucky but I've had no problems getting all this working with RMS.

My main comment to anyone setting up RMS with CC/debit card support is to make sure you check out funds availability, fees, and support with any system you choose.
