Phantom Item number

I started putting in a new Lot Matrix Item, and canceled out in the middle and did not finish putting the item in. Now when I try to put the item in, it comes back with the message "Item Lookup Code Must Be Unique". The Item Code must be in the database without any other information linked to it. I want to delete that item entry so I try to search for the item number, but it does not appear. I have done a Re-Index of the Database, and it still give me the Item Lookup Code Must Be Unique message, and the Item code is not in the database. How do I find the Item to delete when it is out in limbo??
