RMS after repairs

Hello. I use a laptop as my register and I had to send it off for repairs, but before i did i took it to the Geek Squad to remove the data. I loaded RMS to my other laptop, but i can't get the information it to pull the data off the disc. Please help. I can't get any work done without it and i'm affraid that all data will be lost because Sony is going to wipe out my hard drive completely.

In desparate need of a reply. Blue

Itdepends on how you saved your data. If you did a normal backup [via RMS Administrator OR Manager] the restore is quite easy. If you just copied your SQL Data Folder with the MDF and LDF this data can also be restored but requires a few additional steps. So before I can give exact answer I need to know what you have done.

Hello. Unfortunately i'm not sure how it's saved. I took it to the Geek Squad and they did something called data migration and told me that they just moved all the store operations folders to the disc they gave me. A normal backup was done before my laptop died, but like i said Sony has it and has wiped it clean.

You mentioned that that the data was copied to another laptop. Can you ZIP that data and email it to me - OR place it on an FTP site. I will try to restore it here at the office and then send it back to you with instructions of how to do this.

Thank you for all your help. The backup data was not copied to another laptop, i downloaded the Store Ops software to the other laptop thinking i'd just be able to put in the disc and run my store as usual. I will try to zip the files as they are on the disc and send them. Thanks again Afshin Alikhani. I really appreciate this.

If all they did was backup your Store Operations folder, then they did not copy your database. The database is stored in a different folder (the SQL Server Data folder.) If they backed that up, then you can recover it from the the .mdf file. If not, then you need to find another backup.

This normal backup you did before the laptop died, where did you save the file? Hopefully the Geek Squad backed up whatever folder that was in.
