Samples or Moldy products

We are a cheese retailer and I need RMS to account for merchandise that is sampled, moldy, past expiration date, etc. I tried adding a return reason code of Samples with a type of Return to Offline Inventory however it is requiring a cash refund. Is it possible to scan out these types of products through POS or does it have to be done through the backend via Store Operations Manager? How can we account for these products?

I believe you want to add an Inventory Manual Adjustment reason code and use SO Manager to remove the quantities from inventory. A code of OLDNMOULDY would be perfect. When you adjust inventory in SO Manager, you'll be prompted for a reason code. At the end of the year, you can use the Item Movement History Report to isolate deductible inventory adjustments, like OLDNMOULDY.

Whatever you do with RMS, you can send all of your old & mouldy cheese to me.

"The cheese is old and mouldy." A frenchman would laugh--and as a cheese retailer, you must also find this mildly amusing--at least on occassion.

Seriously, I am jonesing for some sharp provolone right now. I'm right in heart of the Western Cheddar Capitol and finding anything more exciting than extra sharp cheddar is a challenge.

If you could help with my 'prompt for WO' dilemma, I could probably find a few pounds of old cheddar around here somewhere...

Another approach you might consider would be to create a Customer called "Waste" and give them a 100% discount. Just select the waste customer and run a sale transaction for anything that is going out as waste. This would allow you to report anything that is wasted by running a detailed sales report and filtering by the customer account. This will increase your COGS for the day but not your sales (because of the 100% discount). There are going to be accounting issues with any process you use to move this stuff out of inventory.
