Securing internet access for EDC

Apr 13, 2006 3 Replies

Hello, I would like to secure my registers by removing all internet access except for the port used by RMS for authorizations and settling batches for Preferred Acquirer credit card processing. Does anyone know what port RMS uses for this? If it is port 443 can I block all other ports and my CC processing still work? Can I also narrow my internet access down to a specific site instead of a port?

Thanks for any help,

John

John,

Maybe, it depends on your specific software and hardware setups. Hardware or software firewalls, Proxy servers, etc. Get with your reseller for options based on what you have!

To see the url(s), SO Admin | File | Connect | put in your password | File | Configuration | EDC tab | Advanced Options button | Advanced button | click on each edit button. DO NOT change these.

John,

Again, depending on your particular situation, that credit url should be what you need. Make a big note to yourself about the hole you opened, as it may change and if credit cards stop working suddenly, usually at the beginning of the month!

Wouldn't it really be easier to setup a group policy or SCT

formatting link
if smaller, to allow/deny Internet access? Even maybe a whitelist in the proxy/firewall.
