store logo CARD for discounts

i like to offer some of my customers a store card ( like safe way or riteaid stores ). Customers can then scan the card or enter the ph number on signature capture device like etouch 1000 and recieve discount on selected items. i do not want to have any monthly service and card should have store logo and small enought for key chain and may be able to carry balance like a gift card. is that possible?

Assuming we're talking about Microsoft Point of Sale, yes, that is possible - at least close to what you're asking.

One way to do this is:

1) Pick a Price Level to use Price Level A, B, or C. This is arbitrary, but once you start using one, you need to be consistent. Let's say you use Price Level A.

2) In the customer properties of the customers who you've issued cards to, assign Price Level A to the customer.

3) You don't want dual entry of the customer account, so ideally, you would need to create the customer card via POS Manager. This can be done by editing an existing label format or creating a new label format (Address labels tab of Print Labels). To add the store logo, modify the Label Design and add an Image type to the Object Properties. You can add some type of lamination and punch a hole in it for the keychain.

4) On the "selected items" assign a Price to Price Level A. Note that if there is no price in Price Level A, the normal price will be charged.

5) When a customer has a card, the cashier can scan the card to select the customer.

No service charge is required.

I see two challenges.

1) I don't see a way that the customer can enter their phone number with a signature device. It may be possible, but I'm just unaware of it. As a rule of thumb, it's not a good idea to use the customer phone number as the customer number. (The cashier can still search for the customer using the phone number.)

2) Sorry, but I don't see any way to carry a balance.

That certainly can be done.

The only thing I'd add is that you have another tool avaiable in Point of Sale to help with the price setting - the Inventory Wizard.

You can use the Inventory Wizard to set the Price Level A (or B or C as you decide) for all the items in a department or category, (or even individually selected) with a 10% discount from the regular price.

When you want to go back to the original price, you use the Inventory Wizard to set the Price Level for all the items with a $0.00 offset from regular price. Whether you do 5 items or 500 items, it'll take you the same amount of time.

You can do it a couple of ways, just depends on how much you wish to spend.

Create a business card size card with your logo and any other info you wish to put on it and on the back of the card, print a serialized barcode on it representing the Customer Account Number. After entering the customer into the program, scan the barcode while in the Account Number field.

The cards if you wish to print then yourself, just go down to Office Deport/Max/Staples and get business card stock. If you wish to have someone print them for you, contact a local _large_ printing house or search the web for someone. We have sold ones from Vanguard ID Systems

Hi Jay,

RMSynergy have written a range of bespoke Add-ons that enhance the capabilities of RMS. In particular one of the Add-ons we have written is Customer Price Matrix. We wrote it with the view that a store/business might want to set different rewards for different customers/account types.

With Customer Price Matrix you can reward customers on an Item by Item basis or against a Department or a Category. The beauty of this is that it can be either by account type or by individual customer. So you can have different price breaks/rewards for different customers as you see fit.

All you would need at point of sale is for a swipe card of card containing a barcode with the customers numbers on and at time of transaction hit F7 to set the customer and either scan the barcode or swipe the card. Customer will automatically take advantage of the benefits previously set up in the Customer Price Matrix tool.
