Suggestion: Print a held transaction in RMS

Use QUOTES instead.

I have seen a situation where the quote receipt template is simply modified to be a "bill" or "tab". When the server enters the items they put in a comment (Shift-F9) with the table number (which prints on the receipt). Then the receipt is delivered to the table as the bill. When the cash is tendered, the server takes it to the register and "picks up" the quote and turns it into a sale.

The beauty is that when you go to retreive a quote, all of the reference numbers and comments are listed right in front of you to help you quickly select the table in question.

If the table adds items, a new tab will print each time the quote is re-saved. If you want to save paper, I recommend turning the printer OFF and making a macro to pull up the last receipt and print it. Or you can set it to ask the cashier if a new tab is required.

You can do a combination of things like have quotes automatically print in the kitchen on a second printer or print a second copy for the kitchen on the same printer, or print on multi-part paper as your situation warrants.

It actually works very smoothly if you get used to the system and create macros to make tasks faster.

Thanks for the reply. While this would require us to re-develop some existing add-ins that only work with sales transactions, I'll look at your suggestion further.

I have no idea what your add-ins do, but there is no reason that the quote feature would not work as a bill or tab for your tables. As far as customizations (receipts) you will have a little work to do, but it is not hard at all.

We have a critical add-in that implements "Happy Hour"/Special Sale discounts. It extends the normal RMS sale pricing by (1) letting an inventory item appear in more than one scheduled sale and (2) providing 3 ways to discount the price: fixed sale price, fixed discount amount, or a percentage discount off the base price.

We'd definitely want this add-in to adjust the price of a quote item if Happy Hour was in effect. Probably not a big change, but there was a lot of testing involved.

I just finished testing an add in from the UK which does this really well, it has a lot of the normal functionality you would expect of a hospitality Pos Systemm. It was from a company called RMSSynergy.
