Thoughts on the New West / Storefront e-commerce solution?

Is anyone currently using this solution? If so, are you happy with it? I have heard some good things about this solution and quite a few bad things. We are looking for an e-commerce solution to tie in with our RMS database and the options seem to be rather limited.

We have also released an X-Cart version of our Web Integrator: Professional. People seem to be really happy with it and it avoids the complaints we've had with the Storefront version.

What complaints have you had with the Storefront version? I currently have a website for our company that I built using Dreamweaver and I would like to add e-commerce functionality to my existing product pages. The storefront solution seems to be the most convenient for that as their product seems to integrate with Dreamweaver quite well. Do you know how well the X-Cart product integrates with DW? Also, I am at a loss as to why I would need X-Cart, the Kosmos Cart Plug-In and then the Web Integrator. What exactly does the Kosmos Cart Plug-In do and why is it needed?

Tim

Professional.

The Kosmos plug-in is the web service piece Kosmos developed that will receive and send the xml requests for orders and item changes to and from our web integrator. Essentially you could try to develop this piece yourself, but they have put in the grunt work and it is working successfully.

Thank you for the clarification Casey. What are your thoughts on the Storefront solution. Do you know of many people using it and are they happy with it? What is your recommendation, the Storefront solution or X-Cart? Are you guys working on integrating with any other shopping carts besides these two?

Tim,

We are always looking for the best carts to tie with our Web Integrator software. Since we are in rapid development, new things are always coming down the pipe. Feel free to give us a call and we'd be happy to discuss the best solution for you.

Thanks! Jesse

Tim, The two carts are very comparible. The x-cart solution is a bit less expensive but requires you to do most of the web development yourself when setting up your site and templates. Store Front is more expensive but you get alot of support and a small portion of your site setup for you when you sign-up. The people who have purchased the X-cart integration are very happy with what they have gotten, but they are usually saavy web people who need little assistance in getting their site up and running. People who purchase the Store Front integration usually need alot more hand holding since they are not as familiar with web development and rely on Store Front to help get them up and running. I hope that kinda explains the difference between the two choices. I do know that Kosmos is very willing to assist in getting x-cart up and running for you and help where needed, but it is not part of their out-of-box package, although they will help get the RMS integration piece going for you and will help get a template started that you can use to build off of. I have not had any issues with Kosmos knowing how their integration piece works where sometimes you need to dig around in Store Front and find the support team who knows their RMS integration piece well, but I know they are working hard to keep their technicians up to date with the RMS integration - it is just a bigger company with a bigger offering and they have alot of integrations outside of RMS to support.
