Touchscreens

Hello, I'm trying to deploy a new elo touchscreen POS system and have run into a bit of a snag. We're a rather large enterprise and need security to be one of our foremost priorities, so my management team wants all unused items (alpha keyboards, unused keys, and the like) not to been seen by any cashiers. The keyboard set up utility that is offered in RMS doesn't seem to have the ultra-configurabilty that I need, does anyone out there know how I can go about configuring the touchscreen keyboard to our liking? Any help is greatly appreciated, Jim

If you setup Security levels and take away functionality even though you can see those functions in the TouchScreen layout they will not be able to use them. In order to customize Security settings at the POS you must log into the POS using an Adminstrator cashier. Then click on the empty button to the Left of the F7 Set Customer key on the Function. You will notice a Lock icon appear. Then either use Ctrl-S to start customizing security settings. Note if you want to customize a Window i.e. the LookupWindow that window must be open and if you wanted to customize the Ctrl functions you must use the blank button next to F1 help to cycle through the function keys.

You can also define your own Custom layout and place the most commonly used actions in your own order.

Thanks for the quick response, I get lost somewhere at LEFT of the F7 key - I'm sorry but can you be more descriptive. Thanks.

Jim,

Security functions are covered in the manual and in the RMS help. Look for "Security Mode" in help.

Alright thats not going to work - I need something that I can add and remove buttons - think about a programmable hardware keyboard - you program a key and it does that function - nothing more. Is there a software plugin to RMS that is available that would give me the functionality that I'm looking for?

Retail Realm has an add-in called ButtonPOS. I have not used it and don't know if it will get you as much customization as you are after, but it's a good place to start. It is possible to build an entirely new UI on top of RMS if your requirements dictate it - that would be a very complex add-in, but there are a couple of them out there. It sounds like in your case you would need to have something custom built to exclude the functions you don't want.
