New Casio POS

I was just wondering what you guys think of this purchase. I am looking at the new MS POS from Best Buy, and the casio comes with everything, a touchscreen monitor / receipt printer, and cash drawer / scanner. All of this is for $2999...the computer alone is that much, you can get the whole system from Best Buy for that much, including the software. Is there something I'm missing? Look at the link below, and let me know your thoughts please.

Vince,

Be careful!

That's MSPOS and _not_ RMS. There are major differences. Single store only, not much customization opportunities, and the package _really_ isn't that good. View and understand this;

1.2 Celeron? I think my TiVo is faster! We haven't had a machine in the building that slow in 2 years!!

256 of RAM, that's the minimum for XP, but you don't get XP. You get a cut down version of XP called Windows Embedded.

How are you going to print price labels it says you can? Not on that receipt printer. More $$$ Oh yeah, how are you going to print _any_ of those 30 real-time reports? Even more $$$.

How are you going to transfer the information to QuickBooks when you can't install QuickBooks? There isn't a CD or DVD drive. More $$$

How are you going to backup your data? Maybe an external USB drive. More $$$.

Don't forget the MSPOS Maintenance Plan at another $144. More $$$

There are more issues, but you should get the idea!

Jeff, Thank you...I was honestly thinknig I should go and buy the machine, uninstal MSPOS, and install RMS...but from the sound of it, it wouldn't be a very good idea. I went to Best Buy, and saw the system, and it looked pretty good, but I hadn't done any research regarding the speed / comparison to a regular computer. I appreciate the feedback. I started to think, how cool to have everything be all in one, but from the sounds of it not that good. Thank you very much Jeff for the response.

If you talk with a Certified RMS Partner, they can get you what you need in a all-in-one solution. If you are unsure if the Partner you are talking with are truely qualified ask for 3 - 5 references of there current clients preferably a client that is in the same vertical as you.

Rob, Thank you...actually I have a pretty good system right now, but as they keep comming out with newer things, that take up less space, I am on the lookout for something faster and more efficient. I appreciate all of the response

Thank You Vince :)

Vince,

The biggest issue I have with all-in-ones is that they use customized parts that, in most cases, you can't get anywhere else, at an outrageous price, if something breaks.

Ditto with the Dells, Gateways, HP and other name brands.

Go ask Best Buy for a new power supply for that Casio and see how long it takes to get one. Could be _weeks_!! Can you afford to have the system down for that long?

Jeff is correct, All-In_Ones are very proprietary. In addition to being an RMS reseller, we have a very large hospitality division selling Aloha software. All they sell are All_In_One terminals. We make no repairs to the terminals, we ship them back to Radiant or Posiflex, the manufacturer. However, we have a large stock of "loaner terminals" so we can support our customer base. Best Buy will not do that. Also Aloha runs on WEBOS (Windows Embedded Operating System), I have tried running RMS on it and it seems to work, however Microsoft does not support RMS 1.3 on WEBOS. We sell a competive package that relies heavily on dotNet and it will not run on WEBOS, must have WinPro. So if you wanted to run some other software in the background there might be problems.
