I take it this splits the RMS solution into two?: RMS (Store Ops & HQ) & POS as a stand alone app...

We are just about to invest in RMS here in the United Kingdom. Looking like a single lane store ops installation. This announcment however makes me slightly nervous as it potentially could save us both time and money if we decide to invest in this new product. Having checked the comparisions and look and feel of the product I'm now more inclined to wait. Does anyone else have similar views on this?

Take the new POS - it looks like Outlook 2003 - which my users are familiar with. It functions like Office 2003 - which my users are familiar with and the new wizards look fantatsic.

Take RMS - I knew I'd seen some of the icons and general look and feel etc in some other Microsoft product and its just occured to me that was SBS 4.5 !! Remember those old black and white server and printer icons?

I'm now looking to back out of this whole install or look elsewhere. Anyone else have view on this?

I've emailed Microsoft Business Solutions in the USA to let me know if the new POS system will be launched in the UK - question is do we wait until it does launch in Europe - if it ever does?

I'm expecting an email from them along the lines of - "we can't give out information about future release dates, but dont worry sir I am sure it will, might, maybe, could, should ............. !!!!"

The new Point Of Sale product actually replaces Quicksell 2000 - the solution has always been split between RMS and Quicksell. I agree that the User interface on the POS product is a big step up from RMS, but other than that the product is intentionally very limited. POS is aimed only at the very simplest of retail operations while RMS can serve a very wide range of requirements.

We're all speculating that MS will eventually give RMS the new look and feel, but I stopped trying to predict timelines long ago.

Check with a local MBS partner and see if they have any news about a UK release for MS POS - if you're having trouble finding one, try Retail Realm

Microsoft POS is a very light offering. If you need layaway, serial numbers, matrix items, kit items then you will want to go with RMS. If you need any third party add ons then you will want to go with RMS.

If your inventory requirements are really simple, then you might want the POS product. IMHO, it does have a superior user interface.

We are the distributor of RMS in UK The MS-POS does not support VAT, UK EFT, and other inetrnational issues at this time. Also as mentioned by others RMS is a far more mature, stable, and full feature product. MS POS is not scheduled for Europe for quite a few years. I suggest that you go with RMS.
