Reinstalling POS

We have the 30 day trial version of Dynamics POS installed on a Back Office computer and a POS computer. Everything is working fine. My question is if we now activate and register the software with the supplied Product Key will we have problems in a couple of monthe when we plan on replacing our POS computer with a new one? Can we just install the software again on the new POS computer using the same Product Key and leave our Back Office computer the way it is? TIA

Bob,

You should not have a problem using the same product key when you switch machines, but you may have to activate by phone rather than by internet.

I was wondering about that, too. I'm thinking the option to activate by phone was grayed out when I got to that screen in the trial version.

By the way: I didn't want to "use up" my trial, and i really was more interested in the manager's stuff and database anyway, so I didn't activate (hit cancel) and it says something to the effect that the POS function will not be available. Later on I even rolled the clock ahead a couple of months and it seems to keep going normally (without the POS function, of course).

And speaking of activation: In the trial there are two stickers with keys and they are not further identified.... are they both valid for POS? or is one for POS and the other for the accounting thing?

Bob,

The trial "kit" does come with one key for POS and one for Office Accounting. I haven't seen the kit myself, but I'm told that the stickers should be on the appropriate sleeve of each CD. Is this not the case?

If not, please contact me at snipped-for-privacy@microsoft.com and we can discuss the details.

Jeff, just FYI: My POS "kit" consists of a cardboard 1 fold, so when you open it up there is a cd on the left (the pos cd), a cd on the right (the accounting cd), and another pocket containing a booklet "POS Free Trial Guide". On the right there are *two* spots for stickers, and below each sticker is printed on the jacket: "Don't lost this product key! You must use it...."

It is a nice, slick, package, by the way.
