Using a wireless PT scanner to scan items onto a receipt.

Anyone have any ideas on how one can go about scanning say about 100 items onto a scanner of some sort and then walk over to RMS Point-of-Sale receipt screen and transfer all of those items scanned to the receipt? What scanner if possible could this work with. I was thinking about using a true wireless scanner but say they are doing this really far away and what if someone exits the receipt screen. So we want something that will actually store information on the scanner until it is synced somehow with RMS to the receipt screen.

Thanks

You can use a relatively inexpensive, ($500) portable data scanner to send a batch of scanned items. You would plug it into a USB port and send the data, which would be sent just like keyboard input. We use the same idea to scan items that need shelf tags, then upload the file into the label wizard. We also use these PDTs for all our receiving needs.

This may not be the best solution for your needs, but it will work. If you need more info post back.

What Portable Data Scanner do you use? Percon PT? I know that they are discontinuing the Percon so what other ones would work with RMS or MS POS? So all you need is the scanner, any special configuration or just treat it like a keyboard?

For our cheaper version, we use the Metrologic Optimus USB, and that uses a USB cradle. We also use a Worth Data, which is a great unit, now about 10 years old. The downside is they cost about $1300. Very sturdy and reliable, but today you can probably get much more advanced units for that kind of money. The Worth plugs right into the USB, you put the screen where you would start typing ILC's and hit UPLOAD Data on the PDT. It then sends ILC:ENTER for each item scanned.

There is a mode on the Metrologic to upload as KEYBOARD entry, but I have not actually used it. We generally use their software to upload our scanned in (received merchandise) orders and upload them to a text file for import into an RMS PO.

Most all PDT should be able to send scanned data back out as keyboard entry. Item:Enter is usually a standard format, although you can program the format you need.
