Adding columns to QB Pro 2003 invoices and searching information in them

Is it possible to add a column to the QB Pro 2003 invoices and have that information available for reports? We need to record cellular numbers on invoices when we add service or repair a unit. The phone number would need to show up on a transaction report that we would export into excel for commission calculations.

Is only one phone number used per invoice? If yes, then a customer custom field can be added to the header of the invoice and used in reports.

To add column to invoices, add a custom field to any Item. Call it Cell No or ??

Edit your invoice template and add Cell No to you template.

Karl,

I would have sugested that in my post however phone numbers are usually 10 digits and your method limits user to only 8.

You can type 30 characters into a custom field whether you can see them all on the screen or not. You can edit a templates layout to show more than 8 characters.

I stand corrected, you the man. I just learned that If you do not check off the print on form option then the number of characters that can be entered depends on the space taken up by the other columns on the form. I did not have the print option checked off and was limited to only eight characters on the custom form I played with.

We need to be able to assign a phone number for each line item on the invoice. For example, if we activate a wireless data service we need to know the phone number of the phone we put it on and we need to pull this up in a report (sales by rep) for later reconciliation from the cellular carrier.

You never answered the question. When you issue an invoice, is it for one phone only, or are there ever instances when the invoice is for more than one phone?

I ask this because if the answer is yes then the phone number need only be entered once in the header of the invoice for it to show up on every line in the sales rep report.

There can be multiple phones on any given invoice. The phone number must be tied to the item and description on the invoice. ie, Qty: 1, Item: 1 mb data plan, desc: Sprint 1 megabyte data plan, phone number: 555-555-5555, cost ea.: 19.95, cost extended 19.95.

There can be many entries on one invoice, some MAY hhave the same phone number, most will not.
