Customizing Templates

How do you add fields (/ rules) to templates, when the field you want is not listed? Is there a developer package available?

Setup "custom fields". Custom fields you set up will appear on the template edit screens.

I want to add field that are in the database like "on hand" that do not appear in the template. For instance, using Enter Sales Receipts, I created a DUP of the Intuit Product Invoice. As a customization I on the Columns tab I checked "Other 1" and gave it the Title On Hand. As expected, that doesn't put the database value On Hand on the form.

My question is how do you add Database fields on to a template. Is there a developers kit that does this?

Thank you, Fred Jacobowitz

Click on the Fields or Columns tab.

QB customization is somewhat rudimentary, with restrictions that can be confusing.

In QB terminology, a field on forms is an element drawn from the customer record or company record or assigned or calculated for the entire transaction. Some fields can be placed only in the header portion of a form (Invoice, Sales Receipt), others only in the footer. Columns are elements of the Item record and can be placed only in the body of the form. Additionally there are a few calculated fields that can be placed in the header or footer but not in the body - examples are the date and number in the header, sales tax and total in the footer.

Because "On Hand" is a calculated value, not a field in the Item record, it can NOT be placed in the body of the form.
