Discontinuation Policy !!

Here's a copy of my protest:

Intuit,

I've been a loyal customer since Quickbook Version 1. Now you've concocted this greedy, slimy and contemptible "Discontinuation Policy" !! Attached is a copy of my complaint to the Oregon Dept of Justice. I PURCHASED the right to use my Quickbooks pro 2007 and Quicken 2007. You have NO RIGHT hobbling it, nor STEALING my right to the fair use !! Who was the jackass that thought this crap up?? They need to be fired!!!!

Too bad you didn't read the fine print of that right you bought. If you did you would know that your right was a time limited one. Time's up!

And I dislike Intuit but their lawyers haven't made an error like their software engineers do all the time.

You may continue to use the software indefinitely. However if you wish to subscribe to their other services like Payroll or merchant services you must upgrade every three years. Not been a secret for as long a I have need using QB.

Ron, Quickbooks 2007 is working just fine with my enhanced payroll. I believe they sold me a product and then surreptitiously removing paid-for capabilities while blantantly picking a cut off date to force an 2010 upgrade instead of letting users wait for the 2011 software. Intuit is shameless. They've done this over & over in the past. I use to upgrade every year because you got a one-time tax table included with any new QBP, then they squeezed the cash cow and took that away. Basic payroll did include unlimited employees and Federal forms-- they removed that too. Basic payroll is now limited to 3 employees unless you forked over for more$$. This year I had to pay them $240 for enhanced payroll to print the forms they included a couple years ago. Payroll tax tables cost me $29 for years until they figured out they could make lots of money with it. As a small builder, I strive to give my customers a fair deal. This is cherry-picking quasi-extortion based upon a near monopoly in the financial software field. After nearly 20 years of using QB, I will be searching for alternatives.

Unfortunately, there are no real viable alternatives out there. I wish there were because I would leave QB in a heartbeat if there were another comparable software package out there from a compnay that didn't use Intuit-style tactics. I think even MicroSoft bailed out on the idea of trying to create a competitive product. So, Intuit just plain owns this section of the market.

One alternative is Peachtree by Sage but you will find they also have the same sunsetting policy. They also have a very strange payroll subscription policy that is a discussion for another newsgroup.

Sun setting just makes a lot of sense. It becomes very expensive for the vendor to support old outdated products, The cost would inevitably be passed down to to all their customers.

Intended, glad it did...

Speaking of Haskel, was surprised no response to the earlier query re: neutering the annoying popups via mods in the .ini file???

Now _that_ puzzles dpb's cranium bone...figured Haskel knew the answer to all of those "how to?" queries...

That's because Haskel loves pop-ups, and believes everyone else should love them to.

FYI, I used the same method on a bad Panasonic DLP TV and ODJ got my complaint settled quickly, I hope they can use their regulatory power to shake up the greedy *&astards at Intuit

Complaining about a bad TV set is one thing. You purchased the product and expect a working model.

You did purchase software here. You paid for a license to use the software. Not the same thing. This policy has been in effect for a long time. Intuit does it, so does Sage and Microsoft. BTW, you don't own the windows operating system. You purchased a license, big difference. You have no grounds to complain. You did not read the license agreement when you purchased the program. Too late to complain now.

Intuit's sunset policy began back in 1999. This news group was filled with posts up the kazoo about the topic back then. Haskel moved on and so should you.

I appreciate a normal answer. I don't read each year's EULA. I'm sure 99.9% of user don't either. The latest "Sunset" hobbles your software and subtracts the main features such as online banking and payroll. The earlier "Sunsets" only dealt with support issues. This policy has very little to do with making their product better and everything to do with arrogance, monoploy tactics and screwing their loyal customers
