Enterprise or Premier

My brother and I own a small manufacturing business: 6 employees, C corp.,

1/2 million a year in sales. Our accountant says we should purchase enterprise edition for corporate support, but premier seems like something more suited for our needs. Any suggestions.

Ask your accountant what in the world is "corporate support".

Depending on your needs you may only need Pro. I seriously doubt you need Enterprise. Start by taking a look at this comparison chart:

I also have no clue as to what your accountant means by "corporate support". If you are concerned with QB support there are numerous levels of support that you can purchase from Intuit.

How can you come to the conclusion that they do not need Enterprise based on so little information? That is like a doctor stopping at stick out your tongue and say ah. If their detailed needs do point in the direction of Enterprise then the next question would be is would a real mid-range solution be in order?

If that is what your accountant actually said then my advice is to seek the advice of someone who knows more about the software. Personally I believe you are interpreting what he said incorrectly.

When are you going to learn to read?? Re-read my first sentence. I never said what program was required. I said "depending on your needs you may only need Pro". Not enough information was given to be able to determine what program was suitable. That is why I pointed him to the comparison chart so he could do some more research.

Again, not enough information. Are these additional LLC corps going to have their own FEIN? If so then they should have their own QB file. All versions of QB can handle multiple company files. They also can handle a single file for multiple entities. You just need to set things up properly. I don't see that as a justification to spend $3000 on Enterprise.

Either we are missing something in the translation or your accountant does not understand the program very well. You should get in touch with a local Pro Advisor and have a face to face conversation with that person and your accountant to determine what level you really need. $3000 on Enterprise is a large investment that warrents further research. Making that type of investment should not be based on advise that you receive in a newsgroup or other help group.

Re-read your final conclusion - "I seriously doubt you need Enterprise."

Until he can show me where he has a real need for Enterprise, I stand by that statement.

That makes the most sense. Many/most accountants don't have a clue as to how QuickBooks works much less which version is suitable for their clients. Getting live help from a Pro Advisor is probably your best bet.
