Legal Free Download, QuickBooks Simple Start Special Edition

Do you know there is now a legal free version of QuickBooks?

Intuit recently authorized me to let you download it free. Our Bittorent web server lets you do this much faster than you can with email or FTP. Simple Start Special Edition is not a "demo." There's no expiration date. You can have virtually unlimited accounts, entries and "other names." You also can have up to 20 customers or vendors, at absolutely no cost to you. If you want to exceed this limit your data can quickly and easily transfer to the full Simple Start or other QuickBooks 2006 version.

Intuit will even send you free CDs with no shipping charge.

I also will provide a generic version of this web page anyone can use.

The problem with Simple Start and in my opinion a big mistake by Intuit, is that first time users would walk away with a negative view of the QB product line in general. It is such a piece a crap that users will run, not walk away, from the best entry level accounting program on the market today.

Intuit sold more than 100,000 copies of its recently introduced QuickBooks Simple Start. The free Special Edition limits Simple Start as indicated below. These SE features seem fine for most Quicken users, small new or home businesses and students. That may mean there are 20,000,000 potential users. A web page for free SE downloads or CD orders thus seems worthwhile. It even seems appropriate that I copy this to Quicken users, with my first cross post in years.

I understand professional accountants and heavy users will want to pay more for more features in programs we often use often. ProAdvisors also get better features almost free (counting the value of the web referral listing, the Premier Accountant Edition, the single user Enterprise edition, continuing education, better unlimited tech support and other benefits). However, each QB version implements most of the features it has in almost the identical way they appear in all other versions. The exception is that Enterprise is faster for more users and that Special Editions only comes in a single user version and does not link to QB add-ons.

That is why I really would like details on why you think there is something wrong with Special Edition beyond its limited features.

I downloaded and installed Simple Start, but there does not seem to be any way to import from Quicken. I'm using 2006 Premier Home & Business, and it is almost good enough. I probably would switch to Simple Start if I could import the years of data that I already have. Am I missing something, is there a way to import from Quicken?

Often "teaser" editions of software (Quicken New User Edition, for instance) are limited in their ability to upgrade data from older releases or to import data.
