Think about it. Isn't that what you do with some (all) your employees?

Why should Intuit be any different?

All what work? Manually calculating each employee's check, against current tax tables, then handwriting those checks is work. Plugging in some hours after the initial employee setup then printing the paycheck is easy.

What country is the OP in?

As far as I know, the US is the only country QB is published in that gives a free tax table update.

If you are in Canada, you're screwed, mate. You have to subscribe to the monthly service plan to get the updates and use the built-in payroll service.

Hi Everyone!

If you do not have previous taxtable subscription, you may download one new tax table at no cost. If you download it, it is good until the next year, in February. The reason I say it like that (year first) is because it's the next year first, then February second. So if you were to download it in December of 2006 - it would be good until February of

2007. But if you download it January of 2007 - it will be good until February of 2008. (I hope this makes sense).

  1. From the Employees menu select Add Payroll Service, then selectLearn About Payroll Options

  1. Click the Learn More link towards the bottom of the page.
  2. Follow the directions on the next page To receive a one-time payroll update

For versions prior to 2006:

  1. Go to the Employees menu and selectPayroll Services and then choose Set Up Payroll
  2. Select Choose a payroll option
  3. Click the Learn more link at the bottom of the page
  4. Follow the instructions on the next page To receive one free payroll update

Thanks! Amy

Hi Amy,

I have been using QuickBooks for many years. I do payroll and always upgrade each year to the newest version and use the one-time tax table for doing payroll. I have just upgraded to QBPro 2007 and cannot figure how to get the one-time tax table download. I tried to follow your directions and could not get there. I checked with the licensing agreement to see that the one-time table was still included, and it still is. Can you help me get the one-time table download? Thanks

Nevermind, I finally got it. I had to manually update QB and then it allowed me to pass through to get the one-time download.

Now You May be able to help me. I did the manual update and still don't see an option for the one time tax table download.

It is well hidden because Intuit would like it to disappear. You need to sign up for the standard payroll service, but do not enter your credit card info. You should get a message after that explaining about the one-time download. WARNING: After getting the one-time download, uncheck the Payroll update option in the QB Update manager. Last year, when QB did an automatic program update on my computer and the Payroll update option was turned on, and because the one-time tax table was not the current tax table, I got a warning that my subscription was expired and I was locked out of automatic payroll calculations. I had to call Intuit and talked to 3-4 people before I got to someone who even acted like they knew there was a one-time table download included in the program, and after much emotion on my part, they allowed me to get another table download.

I negotiated the rat maze to get the "free" download, only to discover you can only use it on one EIN.

Thats what you get for free.
